Fox Hunting

Next Hunt:

Date - TBD
Time - TBD
Starting Location - TBD
Fox - Dave Kurth, N0UVR

Fox hunting (radio direction finding) can be a challenge and very enjoyable at the same time. The simplest method of hunting requires only a handheld receiver (no transmission or license required!) and blocking the radio signal with your body.

For a small investment, you can build a beam antenna and an attenuator which will help you converge on the fox even quicker.

The following links have plans and directions to get you going:

Beam Antenna "7 dB for 7 Bucks"
Tape Measure Beam Antenna
Switched Attenuator
Active Offset Attenuator

Come out and hunt or come out and tag along with one of the experienced hunters and get some advise and experience.

Results for the October Fox Hunt.

Ralph Rohrig, KI0NK and Dave Kurth, N0UVR braved the cold and inclement weather to chase the fox. The hunt was intended to be rather simple but as chance happens it ended up in a location that caused deceptive location informatin at the starting point. Further it's location precluded access from many directions. Considering the chilly and snow showery weather and the location problems the hunt went very well. Dave was able to squeeze in slightly ahead of Ralph to win Foxy this month and has the honor of setting up the next hunt. Congratulations to both for a job well done in the adverse weather. - Jim, AB0UK
